The Master of Fine Arts program is a rigorous three-year residency combining in-depth study of literature with an intensive focus on fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and dramatic writing. MF A candidates take comprehensive exams toward the beginning of their fourth semester (typically early- or mid- February for second-year students). The exams are comprised of two three-hour sessions, in which students write short essays assessing the craft, forms and techniques of certain literary texts.
